The unintended consequences of financial regulation have been seeping into the markets since the first rule was made in the wake of the financial crisis. One prime example is the leverage ratio, which determines the required capital of general clearing members. Nasdaq closed the deal today for $1.1 billion with Deutsche Boerse, giving the exchange three options markets: International Securities Exchange, ISE Gemini and ISE Mercury, to go along with Nasdaq Options Markets (NOM), Nasdaq OMX BX and Nasdaq OMX PHLX. Tom Wittman, executive vice president of Nasdaq and global head of equities at Nasdaq, told John Lothian News that the plan is to integrate and migrate the three exchanges onto the Nasdaq platform. Room For One More: MIAX Due To Open 15th US Options Exchange Blog,Options

MIAX options, the youngest exchange group in the US options industry, announced plans to launch MIAX Pearl in the fourth quarter. The new exchange, introduced at the Options Industry Conference in Palos Verdes, Calif., is pending regulatory approval. MIAX Pearl will offer a maker-taker pricing model. While much is made of the proliferation of US options markets and possible oversaturation of exchanges, MIAX executives believe they need to create the new market to continue their growth.
