MarketsWiki Hits 100 Million Page View Mark Blog,Commentary

MarketsWiki crossed the 100 million page view mark yesterday. 100,000,000! Talk about big data! MarketsWiki is what transformed John J. Lothian & Company, Inc. into a real company with employees, culture and ambition. Before it launched, JJLCO was just me and a deal with Jim Kharouf on the Environmental Markets Newsletter. From the idea I shared at the FIA Boca Conference in 2007 sprung the platform that would allow JJLCO to utilize the goodwill it had built up and turn that into cash to build MarketsWiki, which now has more than 22,000 pages. Jon Matte was the first hire and…

The future of futures markets: Exchanges looking to fail fast Blog,Commentary,Exchanges, OTC & Clearing,Fintech,Investing & Trading,Mwiki

Andreas Preuss, deputy CEO, Deutsche Boerse had a show stopper. At the IOMA: World Federation Exchanges conference in Frankfurt on Friday, he said his exchange will have to speed up its business processes exponentially in the next two to three years in order to thrive. Implementing products and services from beginning to release will go from today’s 18 months to 4 days. Yes, you read that correctly. And no, no one in the audience was laughing. “The old way was seven months of iterations of prototypes,” Preuss said. “In the world I am aiming at, the business IT and operations…

Phupinder Gill is Leaving the CME Group? Americas,Blog,Commentary,Exchanges, OTC & Clearing,Mwiki

Phupinder Gill is retiring at the end of the year, the CME announced. That is the cover story. What the real story is will be more difficult to discover, but this much is clear, this was not the plan. When I interviewed Gill at a Chicago Executive’s Club luncheon earlier this year we discussed the approach of developing your successor. Gill laid out how the CME had identified a group of CME executives that were all being groomed as successors. To have Terry Duffy named as CEO, and Gill to exit so quickly, smacks of some other kind of decision…

It was after midnight and the realization that Donald Trump is going to be president of the United States stunned, saddened and angered me. This is what our great country has descended to – a nation of angry white people who voted more than the brown and black people. It’s quite simple really – more people loved Trump’s hate and BS than believed Hillary Clinton’s boring establishment BS. And so, here we are, on the precipice of all that is right with democracy and wrong with America. We’ll rationalize it by saying we are bigger than this president –…
