Observations & Insight Miscellany for Friday SD– JLN Perusing the day’s most active option chains on the OIC’s website yesterday was a bit wonky. Only one of the 19 most active equity symbols had more put activity than calls, that being FOXA (21st Century Fox). On the ETF side, there was a lot of lopsided action. TLT (20-yr Treasuries) saw 92 percent of its activity on the call side. The flip side of that coin – ETFs dominated by put activity – was populated by EEM (emerging markets), QQQ (Nasdaq), EWZ (Brazil) and SMH (semiconductors), with puts accounting for 80…

Lead Stories Now NASDAQ gets in a tangle Jamie Powell – Financial Times Last month we published a story on Longfin, a Nasdaq listed trade-finance company with a tenuous link to blockchain technology and hence an excessively high market capitalisation. Observations & Insight Sunday, Sunday, Sunday Spencer Doar – JLN My fantasy football team was bad this year. The Detroit Lions in 2008 bad. I went 0-13. A mathematically inclined friend in the same league ran the numbers – not sure of the specifics, but he used ESPN’s point predictions versus actual performance – and his calculations showed that my abhorrent results were nearly three standard deviations outside the norm. I would not have found this nearly as amusing before I started covering the options space and following earnings seasons. Bottom line, that frees up some of Sunday night. Good…
