Sometimes it’s time to diversify. Chris Hehmeyer formed a new firm called Hehmeyer Trading & Investments LLC that will expand into the managed futures and introducing broker space. The renamed company comes from his prior firm, HTG Capital Partners, which acquired Kottke & Associates in late 2016. The new name helps simplify things for Hehmeyer, who has integrated HTG’s proprietary trading operation along with Kottke’s commodity trading advisor and introducing broker business. CME is making progress in its ongoing efforts to attract Asian customers. CME CEO Phupinder Gill told analysts that the region has been a strong contributor to CME’s metals and energy product groups. Volume in its natural gas options out of Asia rose 104 percent, and in metals, volumes from the region were up 44 percent. Chairman says Reg AT is next big item on the list to finish before yearend. The futures industry’s regulator had several initiatives in 2016 but the top items were tackling the issue of cybersecurity, margin and the upcoming finalization of automated trading rules. On cybersecurity, the CFTC adopted rules for the exchanges, clearing houses, trading platforms and trade repositories that require more testing of platforms and systems to make them more secure. “That’s probably the biggest single threat to financial stability in our markets today,” said Timothy Massad, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, who spoke with John Lothian…
